Tara Emory founded Aligned Discovery to bring together her deep experience in technology law with her desire to help parties realistically and collaboratively address the many challenges of legal technology and technical legal issues.
Her prior roles include serving as Special Counsel in Covington & Burling's eDiscovery, AI, and Information Governance practice, and working as an antitrust associate at other leading law firms including Skadden, Cadwalader and Clifford Chance. In addition, she has held General Counsel, consulting lead and executive positions at legal service providers. Other experiences include regular work as a court-appointed neutral, testifying as an expert on technical e‑discovery issues, and providing consultative expertise and training to corporations and U.S. federal agencies.
Tara is Chambers‑ranked among U.S. attorneys in eDiscovery. In prior roles she was ranked Band 1 for U.S. eDiscovery litigation support. She is licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and New York. She also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Committed to advancing the profession, Tara serves on the Steering Committee for The Sedona Conference Working Group 13 on AI and the Law, and is an active member of and previously served on the Steering Committee for The Sedona Conference Working Group 1 on eDiscovery and Information Governance. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Court‑Appointed Neutrals, for which she is co-chair of the Programs & Outreach Committee, and is a member of the EDRM Global Advisory Board.
Based in Washington, D.C., Tara brings a practical, collaborative approach to every matter and is passionate about moving the law forward through technology and legal service. She holds J.D. and LL.M. (Master of Laws) degrees in International and Comparative Law from Duke University School of Law.
